Art World Foam Paper

Seemed like it was going to be a gloomy day outside so to brighten up the inside, I give Ava another art project. I cut foam paper into various shapes (mostly rectangles), put some water in a bowl and let her dunk the pieces in the water. Next step is just letting her stick them onto the window. Easy & Fun! The only hard part for me was, well besides cutting shapes other than rectangles was, was making sure the water didn't get everywhere since the toddler thought it was funny to stick all her toys and her head in the water.

Items Needed:
Foam Paper
Scissors
Water

Now I was going to post this last  week but forgot oops and yesterday the weather was definitely not gloomy, hello sun & 78 degrees, but since its getting close to Halloween I made some ghosts & pumpkins though my little art critic told me it wasn't a pumpkin.

Art World Dale Chihuly

I have enjoyed Dale Chihuly's work for many years. So I'm especially excited that my 2 year old picked Dale Chihuly's artwork as one of her favorite pieces at the Art Museum. We walked in and I didn't even see it yet and Ava squealed "WOOK IT'S AN OCTOPUS". It was Dale Chihuly's Rio Delle Torreselle.

Here's a fun way to get your little one to do their own Chihuly inspired artwork.

Items Needed:
Pipe Cleaners
Clay Modeling Tool for poking the holes like this

Adults will need to poke the holes as the tools are sharp. If you know of any other ways to make the holes post it in comments please.
Children can wrap the pipe cleaners around a pencil or their fingers & put them in the holes and create their own artwork.

If you post any toddler art to instagram or twitter use hashtag #artworld and I can follow along. Have Fun!

Pick Me Up Tuesday, Get Dirty

My toddler loves to paint. I love watching her face light up with smiles but I don't really enjoy the mess. Do you? I looked outside and saw the beautiful birds and wanted to hear them chirp so that got me thinking. Minimal cleanup, great scenery, lots of laughs, all equals a win to me so outside we went.

Items Needed:
  • any paint or markers
  • paint brush
  • rocks (this is optional as Ava also painted dirt)
  • water
Ways to expand the "lesson"
  • texture: smooth, rough
  • Size: big, little, bigger, smaller
  • weight: heavy, light
  • colors: mixing colors (can even see this in the water when washing the brushes)
